Delhi: The performance of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has been disappointing so far. The team has faced defeat in three consecutive matches. Injuries and changes in form in the team have disturbed the balance and it is becoming difficult to find the right combination.

Klaasen’s view on MS Dhoni’s absence

However, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star wicketkeeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen believes that MS Dhoni’s absence is not the main reason for the team’s problems. According to him, there are still many strong players in the five-time champion team, who can compensate for Dhoni’s absence.

Klaasen told Star Sports, “Chennai Super Kings has an excellent IPL record and has always been a strong team. The absence of Dhoni does not make it weak. The players they have are also excellent. The return of Dewald Brevis in their middle order will further strengthen them. Two batsmen have not been able to score runs in the opening so far, so their performance is yet to come.”

Dhoni’s influence still remains

34 year old Klaasen said that Dhoni’s role is not limited to just the field. He said, “Dhoni’s absence does not make much difference because he is still present in the dugout and shares his experience. In the last few seasons, he often bats only till the last 10 balls, so it is important to focus on other players in the team.”

Impact on fans and atmosphere of Chennai

Klaasen admitted that Dhoni’s absence is felt at one place. He said, “The crowd will be a little quiet. Usually, when Dhoni comes on the field, the whole stadium echoes. Hopefully, his form will remain a little tough, so that we can put pressure on him.”

It is not always easy to play in Chennai

Klaasen also commented on the challenge of playing in Chennai. He said, “The ground in Chennai is not easy, especially when there is a player like Ravindra Jadeja in the team, who bowls at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour and the ball keeps spinning. Fortunately, this season he is in Rajasthan Royals, so there is less worry this time.”

It is clear from Klaasen’s comments that the Chennai team is still dangerous, but there are questions about their form and the balance of the team.
