Bangladesh Cricket Board took a major administrative decision amid the global fuel crisis. Bangladesh Cricket Board has changed the match timing of the upcoming international series, so that electricity consumption can be reduced. This step was taken to support the energy saving campaign of the Bangladesh government.
Earlier, all three ODI matches between Bangladesh and New Zealand were to be held in day-night format. But now they have been shifted to day time. These matches to be played in Dhaka and Chattogram will now start at 11 am. The board believes that with this the matches will end by sunset i.e. around 6:30 pm and there will be no need for floodlights. This will save about 4 hours of electricity in every match.
Bangladesh changed the schedule of New Zealand series
The schedule of the T20 series has also been changed. The first two T20 matches, which were scheduled to start at 6 pm, will now start at 2 pm and end around 5:10 pm. The third T20 match was already a day match, so no changes have been made in it.
Now matches will be held during the day instead of day-night
This has also affected women’s cricket. The timings of the three-match T20 series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka women’s cricket team were also changed. This series will be played in Sylhet on 28 April, 30 April and 2 May. Now all these matches will start at 1:30 pm instead of evening, so that natural light can be used more.
Decision taken in view of energy crisis
BCB said in its official statement that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the energy saving initiative of the government. The Board aims to make maximum use of daylight and reduce reliance on floodlights.
According to the schedule, the New Zealand team will play the first two ODIs in Dhaka on April 17 and 20, while the third match will be held in Chattogram on April 23. After this the T20 series will start from 27th April and continue till 2nd May. At the same time, Sri Lanka women’s team will reach Bangladesh at the end of April.
This decision shows how cricket boards are no longer limited to just sports, but are taking their decisions according to global challenges. Amidst the energy crisis, this step is being considered a good initiative to create a balance between sports and environment.
