Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant acknowledged that his team failed to post a sufficient total after their seven-wicket defeat to the Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2026 match at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Addressing the post-match presentation, Pant stated that the pitch required a higher score, suggesting that a total of 170 to 180 would have been more competitive, though his side fell short despite some positive moments. “See, definitely not enough runs. There’s nothing. From the fact that they bowled well. I think in a wicket like this, a score like 170 to 180 is a really good score. But, you know, the wicket kept on falling, and they put enough pressure on us to get those wickets going,” he said.

Pant also noted that LSG had chances in the game but were unable to capitalize decisively. “There were opportunities in the game. We just couldn’t grab it enough,” he added.

He expressed confidence in his batting unit and advised against panic, emphasizing the experience within the team. “See, definitely it’s a great lineup. But the tournament has just started here, you know. We’re not putting pressure on players because, especially the senior guys, they know what to do,” Pant said.

Further, he believed the team would recover swiftly despite consecutive losses. “Yeah, there are times when you perform and you just can’t. But at the same time, you know, the trust and belief in the camp is enough. And we know he’s going to come soon enough. It’s always positive,” he concluded.

In the match, Gujarat Titans delivered a comprehensive all-round performance to overcome LSG by seven wickets. Prasidh Krishna was a standout with the ball, taking 4/28, while Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler contributed composed half-centuries.

After being asked to bat first, LSG managed 164 for eight in their 20 overs. Aiden Markram top scored with 30 off 21 balls. Despite early intent from Mitchell Marsh (11) and Pant (18), and late contributions from George Linde (16) and Mohammed Shami (12), LSG struggled to build momentum as GT’s bowlers claimed wickets regularly.

GT comfortably chased down the target, reaching 165 for three in 18.4 overs. The innings was anchored by Sai Sudharsan and Gill, who started cautiously before accelerating at the innings’ midpoint. Gill struck 56 off 40 balls, including six fours and a six, surpassing 4,000 IPL runs. Buttler was even more aggressive, scoring 60 off 37 balls with 11 fours and achieving his second successive half-century and 14,000 T20 runs.

The 84-run partnership between Gill and Buttler effectively decided the contest before Gill was dismissed by Prince Yadav caught by Pant. Mohammed Shami later took Buttler’s wicket, but GT maintained control.

Washington Sundar (21 not out) and Rahul Tewatia (10 not out) finished the innings, securing the victory with eight balls remaining. For LSG, Shami, Yadav and Digvesh Rathi claimed one wicket each, although this was insufficient to defend their total.
