In a big development, Mumbai Indians opener Rohit Sharma left the field after suffering a hamstring injury. In the MI vs RCB match in IPL 2026, the veteran opener was not at his best and was in discomfort during a 241-run chase at the Wankhede Stadium on April 12. He was seen limping, and the physio was called onto the field after five overs. However, Rohit finally gave up after facing the second delivery of the sixth over.
He was on 19 runs off 13 balls when he took the decision.Suryakumar Yadav replaced him in the middle. It is a big concern for the five-time champions, considering Rohit’s track record in the tournament. Mumbai needed runs from both ends, but the veteran was not able to time the ball. Although Ryan Rickelton was blazing all guns, Rohit pulled the plug on his knock to give Suryakumar a chance to maintain the required run rate.
Rohit has worked on his fitness and has lost 10 kg in order to prolong his career. Meanwhile, Rohit’s departure disrupted Mumbai’s momentum with Rickelton and Tilak Varma returning to the dressing room in quick succession.
The Proteas batter amassed 37 runs off 22 balls, laced with three fours and 3 sixes. Suyash Sharma dismissed him. Suyash’s second wicket came in the form of Tilak, who managed just 1 run off 3 balls.
Earlier, Phil Salt (78 off 36), Rajat Patidar (53 off 20), Virat Kohli (50 off 38) and Tim David (34* off 16) took the score to 240/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur and Mitchell Santner took one wicket each.
