Chennai Super Kings player Dewald Brevis has lauded his young teammate Ayush Mhatre, labelling him special amid his impressive performances in the IPL 2026. According to the Proteas batter, the spark in the dressing room is the reason behind the team’s two consecutive wins after losing three games.
Chennai were on the back foot after three consecutive defeats, but the players regrouped to stop the slide in the 19th season. Mhatre has played an aggressive brand of cricket and recorded a strike rate of 171 so far. His runs tally has inspired other members of the franchise to give their best in challenging times. The young star has accumulated 171 runs, including two fifties.
“He is young, special and plays the way he likes. There is a spark in the team and all of us, including the management, are on the same page,” Brevis said.
Brevis gave an important suggestion to the right-handed batter. “Mhatre needs to be true to himself. He should have fun and play the way he wants. There would be ups and downs, and it is good to see how he is playing at the moment. He takes one ball at a time. He hits the ball where it needs to go,” he added.
Brevis was magnificent on his return to the playing field. The Proteas star was sidelined due to a side strain before the tournament. “I felt great to dive on the field and have a good swing with the bat. It was not nice to sit out, and glad I scored some runs in my first game,” he mentioned.
Brevis amassed 41 runs off 29 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders, leading CSK to a 32-run win. His return and the form of Mhatre and Sanju Samson have been working in favour of the Super Kings. CSK will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.
