Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant was forced to retire hurt after being struck on the elbow during his side’s IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 15.

Pant did not take the gloves in the second innings, with Mukul Choudhary fulfilling the role in his absence. Nicholas Pooran took over captaincy duties on the field.

After being brought to the crease after the dismissal of Aiden Markram, Pant was struck on the elbow by a Josh Hazlewood delivery three deliveries into his innings while looking to pull.

He appeared in immediate discomfort and was treated on the field by physio Patrick Farhart before retiring hurt. As Pant retired hurt, he can return to bat later in the innings.

The LSG captain came back to bat in the sixteenth over when LSG were 118/5 after Rasikh Dar dismissed the well-set Ayush Badoni for 38 runs from 24 balls. His stay in the crease was short as Phil Salt completed a good catch to send him back after scoring just one run from six deliveries.

Pant has had a middling IPL, having scored 103 runs in five innings at a strike-rate of 125.60. However, he did score an unbeaten 68 to see his side over the line in its chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
