The Chennai Super Kings campaign has taken a major blow as left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has been ruled out of the IPL 2026 after suffering an injury during the clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
He suffered a grade 2 tear quadriceps injury, and it could be a huge concern for the side that has relied on the left arm pacer for an early breakthrough this season.
Khaleel Ahmed has played 11 ODIs and 18 T20Is for India with the last appearance coming in July 2024.
He sustained the injury during a crucial phase of the KKR clash in Chepauk and immediately raised concerns withing the CSK camp.
The incident occured during the 17th overs of the over, the pacer felt discomfort in his right thigh. He did not bowl the final delivery and walked off the field.
Gurjapneet Singh was brought in to finish the over conceding a boundary in the delivery. However, Chennai Super Kings secured a 32-run victory at Chennai.
According to reports, Khaleel has suffered quadriceps injury that will require a length spells on the sidelines. The medical assessment have confirmed the extent of the damage, with Khaleel diagnosed with Grade 2 tear.
The injury has been described as a high-grade partial tear with a stretch injury of the right recturs femoris tendon, along with a complete tear of the direct of the muscle.
“It is a grade 2 tear and the rehab will take a atleast 10-12 weeks,” said an IPL source.
His absence now leaves a gap that CSK has to replace quickly, as they are entering a phase where consistent wins, aiming for playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings has secured 8th position in the IPL 2026 points table after two wins out of five games. As per CSK 2026 schedule, they will travel to Hyderabad to face SRH on April 18.
