A big challenge has arisen before Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. The team’s experienced opener Rohit Sharma was out of the field due to a hamstring injury in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. According to reports, Rohit Sharma will not be a part of the team in the upcoming two matches, due to which questions have been raised about the team’s opening pair.

Let us tell you, the next match of Mumbai Indians will be played against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday. This team captained by Hardik Pandya is currently going through bad form. With just one win and three losses in four matches, Mumbai Indians have reached 9th place in the points table.

Let us tell you, in the absence of Rohit Sharma, the biggest question now is who will open with Ryan Rickelton. The team has two strong options – Naman Dheer and Suryakumar Yadav. There is believed to be a tough competition between the two players for the opening slot.

Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan has also given his opinion on this situation. He said that if Rohit Sharma is not available then Naman Dhir can open, while Suryakumar Yadav has also played in this role before, so he is also a strong option. However, he also hinted that the team may have to compromise on the bowling combination if a foreign player is given a chance.

Rohit Sharma has scored 137 runs in 4 matches so far this season, his strike rate has been 165.05. Whereas, Naman Dhir has scored 59 runs in 4 matches and Suryakumar Yadav has scored 106 runs including a half-century in 4 matches.

Now it will be interesting to see which player Hardik Pandya trusts against Punjab Kings.
