Chennai Super Kings just received crushing news about their pace attack. A key bowler went down injured during their recent home match. This setback comes at the worst possible time for the defending champions.

IPL 2026: Khaleel Ahmed Ruled Out – 3 Players Who Can Replace Him in CSK’s Playing XI

What happened to Khaleel Ahmed?

The 17th over against KKR turned into a nightmare for CSK fans.

Khaleel Ahmed was bowling the final delivery when disaster struck his right thigh. He immediately felt sharp pain and stopped midway through his bowling action.

Medical staff rushed onto the field as Khaleel Ahmed called for help. He tried continuing but realized something was seriously wrong inside. Walking off the field, his face showed the pain he was experiencing.

Doctors later confirmed the worst fears – a Grade 2 quadriceps tear. The injury adds a high-grade partial tear with serious muscle damage.

His right rectus femoris tendon got stretched badly.

Recovery will take a minimum of 10 to 12 weeks. That means Khaleel Ahmed ruled out for the entire IPL 2026 season.

CSK’s playing XI relied heavily on his early breakthroughs with the new ball. Finding someone to replace those contributions will be extremely challenging. The team enters a crucial tournament phase needing every win possible.

Three Players Who Can Replace Khaleel in CSK’s Playing XI

  1. Mukesh Choudhary

He seems like the obvious choice here.

He’s worn the yellow jersey before and knows exactly how things work. In IPL 2022 Mukesh picked up 16 wickets in 13 games.

That season established him as one of their most reliable bowlers around. But then things went quiet – just three appearances since then. Maybe this injury crisis becomes his comeback story in CSK’s playing XI for IPL 2026.

  1. Ramakrishna Ghosh

He is the wild card nobody saw coming until recently. This guy clocks 140+ kph regularly, which is serious heat for any batter.

Plus he whacks the ball hard down the order too.

Only 9 T20 matches and 2 wickets don’t sound impressive on paper. But his VHT heroics last season. 17 wickets in 7 games, including a crazy 7/42 against Himachal Pradesh. Playing under Ruturaj’s captaincy already gives him chemistry with CSK’s playing XI setup.

  1. Zakary Foulkes

It gives CSK an overseas alternative if they want foreign firepower. The young Kiwi looks pretty solid actually – 77 wickets from 68 T20s.

He has played 22 T20Is for New Zealand already.

At just 23 years old, Foulkes could replace Khaleel Ahmed long-term in IPL 2026. CSK currently uses only three overseas spots anyway, so fitting him works easily.
