The new head coach will be given this post till 2027. This means that he will be the head coach of Team India in the 2025 Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan and then in the ODI World Cup to be held in 2027.

These two giants are the biggest contenders

For some time, it was believed that after Rahul Dravid, National Cricket Academy President VVS Laxman could become the next head coach of the Indian cricket team. He has also played the role of part time head coach many times, but now he also seems to be out of this race.

BCCI is considering giving responsibility to foreign coaches. New Zealand's Stephen Fleming and Australia's Ricky Ponting are at the forefront of the race to become the new head coach of Team India. Fleming and Ponting are currently the coaches of IPL teams Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals respectively.

Rahul Dravid had extended his tenure

In November 2021, after Ravi Shastri, Rahul Dravid took over the role of head coach of Team India for 2 years. His tenure ended after the ODI World Cup last year. But after this, on the request of BCCI, he extended his schedule till T20 World Cup 2024. However, now Dravid does not want to continue in this post further.
