Former India opener Virender Sehwag believes that the Mumbai Indians will release both Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya ahead of the next IPL season. Following their disastrous season, MI are likely to release Rohit and Hardik. The IPL 2025 mega auctions are set to take place later this year.
Newly appointed captain Hardik Pandya has not found his groove and has scored 200 runs and taken 11 wickets in IPL 2024. In contrast, Rohit had a great start to the IPL, smashing his second century, but he quickly faltered.
The former MI captain’s performance has declined to such an extent that Team India is worried about him ahead of the T20 World Cup. Additionally, Sehwag feels that Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah are the only two players MI can now rely on for next year’s IPL because both Rohit and Hardik are struggling with bad form amidst the whole captaincy saga.
“Please tell me something. Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Shah Rukh Khan together won’t make a movie a hit. You’ll have to put on a show. Have a strong screenplay. In a comparable way, all these well-known figures will need to unite and play. MI lost despite a century from Rohit Sharma. Where are the remaining performances?” said Sehwag on Cricbuzz.
“Ishan Kishan played in every game of the season, but he was failed to go past the Powerplay. At this point, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav are the only two names for MI that are guaranteed. The top two names will remain unchanged. And we’ll see if it ultimately comes down to the third or fourth option,” he continued.
With 20 wickets, Bumrah stands second in the Purple Cap standings, while Suryakumar scored 345 runs, including a century. According to Manoj Tiwary, MI would be wise to invest in any of the two players as there are rumors that Rohit might leave the 5-time champions.
