Delhi: Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill has raised questions on his team’s bowling after the big defeat against Mumbai Indians (MI). In this match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Mumbai performed brilliantly and won by 99 runs and broke the losing streak.

Scattered bowling in the middle overs became the reason for the defeat.

After the match, Gill clearly said that his team spent more runs than required in the middle overs, due to which the match got out of hand.

He admitted that a score of 160-170 runs could have been challenging on this wicket, but poor bowling gave the opposition a chance to make a big score. According to Gill, the team could not bowl consistently on the right length, due to which it had to suffer the consequences.

Tilak Verma’s stormy innings changed the course of the match

For Mumbai, Tilak Verma batted brilliantly and scored unbeaten 101 runs. His innings was full of fours and sixes.

He played an important partnership with Hardik Pandya, while also adding useful runs with Naman Dheer. In the last four overs, Mumbai scored runs rapidly and took the score to 199.

Bowlers performed brilliantly, Gujarat’s innings collapsed

Gujarat had a very poor start in chasing the target. The team lost the wickets of Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler in the initial overs itself. After this the team could not recover and the entire innings was reduced to 100 runs. Among Mumbai bowlers, Ashwani Kumar took four wickets, while Allah Ghazanfar and Mitchell Santner kept the opposition under pressure by taking two wickets each.

batting also remained lackluster

Washington Sundar scored the maximum 26 runs for Gujarat. Apart from this, only Shahrukh Khan, Kagiso Rabada and Gill himself could add a few runs. The entire team could not even come close to the target.

Gill’s statement on further strategy

Gill expressed hope that the team will make a comeback in the upcoming matches. He said that now the team has to play on other grounds and it is necessary to improve the performance. According to him, there is a need for more strength in batting too, especially when there is an effect of dew.

With this win, Mumbai Indians not only made a comeback but also registered a big win, whereas Gujarat will have to seriously work on its weaknesses.
