Just a few weeks ago, Suryakumar Yadav had given a chance to the fans by making the Indian cricket team win the title of T20 World Cup 2026. Now the same Suryakumar is the target of fans. But the reason for this is the same for which he was under question during the World Cup and even before that. This is his batting form, which has been very bad for more than one and a half years and the situation is not changing even in IPL 2026. Mumbai Indians vice-captain Surya has failed for the fifth time in 6 matches this season.

In the 30th match of IPL 2026, Mumbai Indians batted first against Gujarat Titans but both their openers soon returned to the pavilion. At such a time, the team needs its best batsman. Suryakumar Yadav Was expected to handle the innings and take it to a big score. In the second match of the season, Surya took the team out of a similar situation and scored a half-century. But this time the Mumbai vice-captain could not succeed in it.

Only one half-century in 6 innings

Suryakumar Yadav raised hopes by hitting sixes and fours on consecutive balls in Kagiso Rabada's over, but his game also ended in this over itself. Rabada's 152 kilometer per hour fast ball came inside after being pitched and Surya was clean bowled. He was out after scoring 15 runs in 10 balls. This was the sixth innings this season in which Suryakumar batted and for the fourth time he was out on a score of less than 20 runs. In this way, till now he has scored only 121 runs in 6 innings. This is less than Rohit Sharma (137), who batted in only 4 innings and in that too he retired in the fourth innings due to injury.

Will Surya be removed from playing-11?

In the last 6-7 seasons, whenever Mumbai achieved title success or the team struggled, Suryakumar Yadav was the only batsman who kept scoring runs continuously. Even in 2025, when Surya did not bat for the entire year, he still scored 717 runs in the IPL. But this year his bat is silent and he seems to be struggling the most in his career with Mumbai Indians.

The problem is that now he is being used only as a batsman and every time he is replaced by an impact player. In such a situation, if the situation continues like this in the next one or two innings, then it would not be surprising for Surya to be completely out of Mumbai's playing-11.
