game desk : Speculations have intensified regarding the return of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star player MS Dhoni. Aditya Tare was surprised to see Dhoni keep wickets during CSK’s practice session ahead of the high-voltage match against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.
Dhoni has not played any match of IPL 2026 so far this season as he is recovering from injury. However, Tare, while speaking on Star Sports, said that he was shocked to see Dhoni wearing wicket-keeping gloves in the nets. “It was a rare sight, especially for Dhoni who has been struggling with a calf injury recently,” Tare said.
Aditya Tare said, “I was watching the practice session, and what surprised me the most was Mahi bhai’s wicketkeeping. I have never seen him wearing wicketkeeping gloves in a net session before.”
Tare also said that Dhoni often restricted himself to batting or light drills, but this time he took part in the practice session while keeping wickets. Tare believes that this could be a positive sign for Dhoni’s recovery progress.
He further added, “He was wearing a helmet, pads and keeping gloves. Perhaps he was doing his match fitness test after his calf injury.” Aditya Tare also told that Dhoni had batted in practice earlier also, but this time it was the first time that he was seen keeping wickets. Tare called it a good sign for CSK and said, “It’s a good sign. CSK can probably get him back on the field very soon.”
CSK will next face arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Currently CSK is placed eighth, while Mumbai Indians is placed seventh in the IPL 2026 standings.
