Former players and experts are sure that Rohit Sharma will leave Mumbai Indians after IPL 2024. His troubled relationship with new captain Hardik Pandya has impacted the franchise. Michael Vaughan and Joy Bhattacharya are sure of seeing Rohit in a different jersey from the next year.
“I don’t see Rohit Sharma playing for Mumbai Indians. They will retain Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and two other players. If I were in charge of one of the franchises, I would add Rohit to my team as a batter and captain. Despite his age, Rohit is cool and calm.
“In a T20 league, you need a skipper like him as the ball flies to every part of the ground,” Michael Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.
Joy Bhattacharya wants Rohit to play freely from the 18th season onwards. “Rohit Sharma should enjoy his batting. You can buy him for INR 3-4 crore and give him the responsibility of batting. If he is bought for INR 15-16 crore, you would want three good season. If Mumbai Indians reappoint him as captain, I don’t see Hardik Pandya playing for the franchise.
“A lot has happened between the two in the last two months. Going back to Rohit would put the team management under pressure as they are the ones who gave the captain’s armband to Hardik.
“Hardik coming back to Mumbai was not a problem but Hardik getting Mumbai’s captaincy created all the mess,” he added.
