Sri Lanka Cricket Board: Sri Lankan cricket has been going through a very bad phase for some time. There has been a continuous decline in the team's performance. News of some differences between the players and the board have also come to light several times. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan government has taken a big decision, after which there has been an earthquake in Sri Lankan cricket. According to reports, amidst deep instability and demand for reform in Sri Lankan cricket, the government has taken a major step and ordered the executive committee of the board to step down by the end of this week.

Big uproar in Sri Lankan cricket

This decision has been taken by the Sri Lankan government due to allegations of corruption, poor management and disappointing results in the recent performance of the team. In the T20 World Cup 2026, even in home conditions, the Sri Lankan team could not progress beyond the Super 8 stage, due to which the anger among the public has increased. At present the board is being headed by Shammi Silva. Serious management-related concerns were being raised on the board for a long time.

Earlier, Sri Lankan Sports Minister Sunil Kumar Gamage had started discussions with the ICC, in which an appeal has been made to intervene from the Jay Shah-led organization. The government is considering forming an interim administration. The government believes that large-scale changes are necessary in the board, so that Sri Lankan cricket can regain its old identity. Earlier, after the T20 World Cup 2026, coach Sanath Jayasuriya had also stepped down and Gary Kirsten was appointed head coach in his place.

The ban has already been imposed

This is not the first time that political interference and administrative instability has come to light in Sri Lankan cricket. Even in the year 2023, ICC had banned Sri Lankan cricket due to political interference, which was removed in the beginning of 2024.
