The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has banned Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya for his team’s third slow over-rate offence in the Indian Premier League 2024. He will miss the first match of the next IPL season. Mumbai couldn’t complete the overs in the allotted time frame against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Pandya has also been fined Rs 30 lakh. The rest of the players in the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.
Hardik is the second captain after Rishabh Pant, who has been penalized with a one-match ban. Pant of Delhi Capitals missed the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru as he was suspended for the third slow over rate offence.
DC had lodged an appeal but it was dismissed. Axar Patel led the team in his absence.
Meanwhile, Lucknow defeated Mumbai by 18 runs.
