Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has revealed that his family members are fond of young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. His parents are the admirers of the15-year-old after he scored his second IPL hundred against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, April 26. He spoke to journalist Vimal Kumar and opined on the rise of the RR batter.

Sooryavanshi has been one of the top batters in the IPL 2026, amassing 357 runs from eight matches. Ashwin’s father has been praising Vaibhav for his shots.

“I haven’t seen my father admiring someone like this in the past. He is watching his batting and is praising his shots. My father reacts after every shot he plays,” Ashwin said.

“I watch every RR match with my parents. They are his number one fans. My mother keeps highlighting his celebrations. It is nice to see the way she admires a young kid,” he added.

R Ashwin mentioned that the love and affection for Sooryavanshi come from the familiar surroundings.

“Kids play cricket like that. Everyone feels that one of the kids from their street has gone ahead and earned a reputation. It seems Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is one of our street cricketers and has been playing in our lane,” he highlighted.

Ashwin added that his mother was left disappointed after the young batter was dismissed, as she felt he had a chance to add more runs to his total.

“She was not happy and didn’t like the shot that led to his dismissal. I told her that he is just a kid. She has been watching him for a long time. She wanted him to make 150 like KL Rahul,” he concluded.

Vaibhav was bought by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction and made his debut following an injury to the then captain, Sanju Samson.

Sooryavanshi is likely to play for the Indian National Cricket Team on the upcoming tours of Ireland and Zimbabwe as the selectors will rest the senior players.
