Delhi: Team India's great batsman Virat Kohli has given a big statement regarding the impact player rule in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). Speaking on Jio Cinema, Kohli has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reconsider the new rule. He has said that not every bowler is Jasprit Bumrah or Rashid Khan, who are skilled in their art and the chances of hitting a boundary against them are less.

On Jio Cinema, Kohli said that entertainment is an aspect of the game, but bowlers should not worry about hitting a four or a six on every ball of the match. IPL 2024 has seen many big scores, in fact the three highest scores in the history of the tournament have been made this season.

35 year old Virat Kohli said, “I agree with Rohit. Entertainment is one aspect of the game, but there is no balance. The bowlers are feeling what they should do. I have never experienced such a situation where bowlers think that they will hit four or six on every ball. We are playing high level cricket and in my opinion it should not be so dominant. Having an equal balance between bat and ball is a beauty. “Not every team has bowlers like Bumrah (Jasprit) or Rashid Khan.”

He further said, “I am telling you, there is a reason with an extra batsman that I am playing with a strike rate of over 200 in the powerplay. I know there is a batsman waiting at number eight also. I think this has upset the balance and not just me but many people are feeling this way.”

Kohli supported Rohit

Earlier, Indian captain Rohit Sharma had given a statement on Impact Player. He had said that he is not a big supporter of it. Now Kohli has supported Hitman.

37-year-old Rohit Sharma said, “I am not a big fan of impact players. You are taking a lot out of the game to make it a bit of entertainment for the people around, but if you really look at just the cricket aspect of it. I can tell you many examples – people like Washington Sundar, Shivam Dubey are not getting a chance to bowl, which is not a good thing for us (Indian team). I don't know what you can do about it, but I'm not a fan of it, to be honest.”

Kohli expressed hope that BCCI will reconsider things and do the right thing for Indian cricket. Virat said, “I am sure Jai Bhai has already mentioned that they will review it and I am sure they will come to a conclusion, which will bring the game into balance. As a batsman, I can say that this rule is good, but the match should be exciting. In cricket, only fours and sixes are not exciting. The exciting thing is that you can even defend 160 runs.”
