Chennai Super Kings ended Mumbai Indians’ chances of reaching the playoffs with an 8-wicket win in Match 44 of the Indian Premier League 2026. MI have 4 points from 9 matches, and even if they win their remaining 5 games, they would reach 14 points, falling short of the minimum 16 mark. Mumbai were ordinary in the batting department after winning the toss and posted just 159 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Chasing 160, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front and played smartly, keeping the required run rate in mind.

He scored an unbeaten 67 runs off 48 balls, laced with 5 fours and 2 sixes. He was assisted by their mega signing Kartik Sharma, who posted 54 not out in 40 deliveries, with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes, as Chennai reached the target in 18.1 overs.

For MI, Jasprit Bumrah and Allah Ghazanfar took one wicket each.

Earlier, the batting line-up of the Hardik Pandya-led team suffered another collapse. Will Jacks (1) and Tilak Varma (5) were miserable with the bat. Naman Dhir was the top run-getter, managing 57 in 37 balls, packed with 4 boundaries and 3 maximums. Ryan Rickelton (37 off 24) and Suryakumar Yadav (21 off 12) got starts but were sent back by the CSK bowlers. Surprisingly, Hardik faced 23 balls for his 18-run knock.

Anshul Kamboj (3 wickets), Noor Ahmad (2 wickets), debutant Ramakrishna Ghosh (1 wicket), and Jamie Overton (1 wicket) were impressive with the ball. With their fourth win in IPL 2026, Chennai still have a chance to make it to the next round.

Chennai Super Kings had thumped Mumbai Indians by 103 runs in their previous fixture at the Wankhede Stadium.
