On Saturday, May 3, the Mumbai Indians lost to the Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. This was the second time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 that Mumbai were outplayed by the Men in Yellow.
During the first innings, Tilak Varma, who walked out to bat at No. 5, tried to scoop Jamie Overton towards the fine-leg region on the last ball of the 12th over. However, the southpaw failed to connect, and the ball hit him on his wrist.
Tilak was wearing a Whoop fitness band on his left wrist. It flew off after taking the blow.
The Hyderabad batter was quick to check if it was working, but it wasn't. Jamie Overton, meanwhile, checked on the 23-year-old, asking him if he was okay. It was a nice gesture from the England all-rounder. Initial reports had suggested that Tilak was wearing a luxury wristwatch. However, that wasn't the case. Check out the video below:
Tilak was eventually dismissed by Noor Ahmad in the following over.
He only managed to score five runs off eight balls.Mumbai Indians could only put up 159/7 after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Ryan Rickelton (37) and Naman Dhir (57) played well at the top of the order. Suryakumar Yadav also chipped in with an exhilarating cameo. However, as the ball got older, run-scoring got a bit difficult. The hard-hitting Hardik Pandya faced 23 balls and scored just 18 runs.
Chennai bowled brilliantly, with Anshul Kamboj leading the way with a remarkable three-for. Noor also bagged a couple of wickets.
In reply, Chennai lost Sanju Samson early as Jasprit Bumrah picked up his third wicket in IPL 2026.
Urvil Patel played his shots and scored 24 off 12 balls before getting dismissed.Kartik Sharma walked out as the Impact Player and joined skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle. They mixed caution with aggression to stitch an unbeaten 98-run partnership off 75 balls to take their team to victory in 18.1 overs.
Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 67 off 48 deliveries, while Kartik finished on 54 not out off 40 balls.
