Sanju Samson is proving to be one of the best batters of the IPL 2026 as the CSK opener played another match-winning innings in the ongoing season. His knock took the Chennai Super Kings to an eight-wicket win over the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital. Chasing 156, the five-time champions reached the target in 17.3 overs on May 5.

Samson single-handedly dominated the rival bowlers and reached an unbeaten 87 off 52, laced with 7 fours and 6 sixes. Overall, he has scored 402 runs in 10 matches at an average of 57.42 and a strike rate of 167.50.

Chennai lost Ruturaj Gaikwad (6) and Urvil Patel (17), but Samson added over 100 runs with Kartik Sharma, who posted 41 not out in 31, with the help of 4 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Earlier, DC captain Axar Patel made a blunder by deciding to bat first after winning the toss, as the pitch was favorable for the spinners, and the visiting team made full use of the conditions.

Pathum Nissanka (19), KL Rahul (12), Nitish Rana (15), Karun Nair (13), and Axar (2) returned to the dressing room without making impactful contributions. It was Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi’s knocks that took the total to 155 for 7.

Rizvi amassed an unbeaten 40 runs off 24 balls, with the help of 4 maximums. Stubbs added 38 runs, laced with 2 sixes and 1 four.

Ashutosh Sharma also showed his class with the willow, accumulating 14 in 5 balls. He struck 2 sixes during his stay in the middle.

Noor Ahmad took two wickets while the likes of Akeal Hosein, Mukesh Choudhary, Gurjapneet Singh, and Jamie Overton got rid of one batter each.

CSK are still in the sixth place while DC continue to occupy seventh spot.
