Chennai Super Kings will lose fanbase once MS Dhoni retires from the Indian Premier League. This statement was made by former India player Virender Sehwag, who thinks Dhoni has played his last season in the tournament.

CSK were eliminated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru after their 27-run win over the defending champions. The contest between RCB and CSK was a knockout and the hosts played exceptionally well to script a memorable comeback.

“We are discussing about MS Dhoni’s retirement for three years. However, he comes back to surprise us. For me, I think he played his last season as he is already 42 and carrying on for another year will be difficult. He will be 43 next year and even a little bit of pain in a finger is visible on your face when you reaches that age,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Viru also made a big statement on the fanbase of the five-time champions. “Chennai Super Kings are well supported. This is because of MS Dhoni. Even in Bengaluru, we could see a lot of people wearing yellow jersey. I don’t think this will continue if MS Dhoni retires from the Indian Premier League. The fanbase will take a hit. You will not see supporters traveling to different parts of the country to support CSK,” he added.

Sehwag compared Dhoni’s legacy with Sachin Tendulkar’s career.

“Sachin Tendulkar left behind his legacy after playing for than 20 years. Same is the case with Dhoni. He has been there with the franchise from the start and when you play for so long for one team, you are remembered by everyone,” he added.
