In a bizarre incident, Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan got out hit wicket wicket against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Qualifier 1 clash in Dharamsala on Tuesday night.
The incident took place in the third over when Sudharsan, who cut an outside off length ball from Jacob Duffy to the boundary, lost control of his bat after playing the shot.
Sudharsan, out of force of habit, left his crease and went for the run even after realising he had lost control of the bat but unfortunately for the opener, the bat ricocheted off the pitch straight onto the stumps, bringing an end to his stay at the crease.
Sudharsan was dismissed for 14 off 9 deliveries, in GT’s chase of the 255 target set by RCB.
This was the second time that Sudharsan was dismissed hit wicket in the IPL, becoming the first player to ever be dismissed by hit wicket twice in the history of the tournament.
The last time we witnessed a hit wicket incident in the IPL was in the 2025 season when Kusal Mendis, also playing in GT colours, got out in the same manner in the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians.
There have been 19 previous instances of a batter getting hit wicket in the past in the IPL.
