After missing out on the fastest-ever century by three runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Eliminator, Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again missed out on the three-figure mark by the barest of margins in the Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans on Friday night.
Sooryavanshi, who was batting on 96, was one hit away from reaching his third IPL century. But as things panned out, the 15-year-old got out in similar fashion like he did in the Eliminator, holing out to deep third while trying to to play an upper cut.
It was a sensational innings from the teenager regardless, helping his team reach a competitive total of 214 when wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end.
Sooryavanshi also became the fastest Indian to hit 1000 IPL runs during the course of his innings.
