Delhi: In the second qualifier match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 played on Friday at the Maharaja Yadwinder Singh International Cricket Stadium, Gujarat Titans (GT) openers Shubhman Gill and Sai Sudarshan made a new world record in T20 cricket. Against Rajasthan Royals (RR), both the batsmen created history by making a brilliant partnership for the first wicket.

Gill-Sai included among the most successful opening pairs in T20 cricket

While chasing the big target of 215 runs, Gujarat Titans got a good start by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan. Both the batsmen added 167 runs for the first wicket. With this, this pair has become the pair with the highest century partnership in men’s T20 cricket. Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan have made partnerships of more than 100 runs 11 times so far.

Earlier this record was in the name of Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle, who had made 10 century partnerships for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Shubman Gill’s stormy century

Gujarat Titans captain Shubhman Gill batted explosively in this match and completed his century in just 47 balls. He played a brilliant inning of 104 runs in 53 balls. In this innings, Gill hit 15 fours and 3 sixes. His strike rate was around 196. This was also Shubman Gill’s fifth century in IPL.

Sai Sudarshan also played a brilliant innings

Giving full support to Shubman Gill, Sai Sudarshan also attacked the bowlers of Rajasthan Royals fiercely.

He scored 58 runs in 32 balls. During this, 8 fours and 1 six came from his bat. Sai Sudarshan batted at a strike rate of around 181 and put the team in a strong position.
