The West Indies Cricket Board has announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming home ODI series against Sri Lanka. The team will be commanded by experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope. The biggest news of this series is the return of explosive batsman Shimron Hetmyer to the ODI team. Hetmyer was not able to perform much for Rajasthan Royals in the recently concluded IPL 2026, but the board has expressed confidence in him considering his talent and his excellent form in the recent T20 World Cup 2026.
The Sri Lankan team is going to tour West Indies this month, where a multi-format series of three ODIs, three T20s and two Test matches will be played between the two teams. The Test series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship. The tour is starting with the ODI series, so the board has just announced the ODI team.
The West Indies team has not yet qualified directly for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. Given the strict rules of qualification, this series against Sri Lanka is going to be very important for the Caribbean team. However, West Indies have an excellent record at home, where they have won 5 consecutive ODI series. The team would like to seal the World Cup ticket by maintaining this invincible chariot.
West Indies’ balance looks to be quite strong with the return of several key players to the squad:
Let us tell you, fast bowler Alzarri Joseph has returned to the team after recovering from a serious back injury. Spinner Gudakesh Moti, who was out of the New Zealand tour last year, has also returned to strengthen the spin department. Shamar Joseph, who was the hero of the Gabba Test, is also ready to showcase his pace in the ODI team. Cricket West Indies is considering Hetmyer as the most important player of the core group for the 2027 World Cup, hence he has been given full opportunity to prove himself in the ODI format.
All three matches of this ODI series will be played at the historic Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica:
| match | date | place |
| 1st ODI | June 3, 2026 | Kingston, Jamaica |
| 2nd ODI | June 6, 2026 | Kingston, Jamaica |
| 3rd ODI | June 8, 2026 | Kingston, Jamaica |
