Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 record breaker Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has left everyone mesmerized with his batting. The 15-year-old went on to win the Orange Cap as well as the best emerging player, most sixes, and highest strike-rate award, amongst others. This year, the young batter scored a whopping 776 runs with the bat, with one century and five half-centuries.

Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja revealed that he had a chat with Ajit Agarkar regarding the young man’s selection to the national side. Jadeja and Agarkar were both teammates for India in the late 90’s. Speaking to the media, the former Indian star said, “How much more does he have to perform? I saw Ajit and told him ‘Mr. Chairman! When will you pick him?

India’s former batter also added, “If he isn’t picked now, when will he be called up? Age doesn’t matter. How could somebody bat better than this? The likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar have already called for the youngster to be included in the national side soon.

Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Mr. Devajit Saikia was also asked about the prodigy’s eventual call-up to the national side. To which Mr. Saikia said, “Vaibhav is a wonderful player and bright upcoming talent, and he has a huge future ahead of him. The board will do everything in its power to get the youngster to play at the highest level.”

Steven Finn wants to see Vaibhav Sooryavanshi play in England

Team India’s next international assignment is against Afghanistanwhere they play one Test and 3 ODI games. This will be followed by a T20I series in Ireland as well as a white-ball tour of Englandwhere the Men in Blue play three ODIs and 5 T20Is. Former English seamer Steven Finn, too, has expressed his eagerness for the 15-year-old to tour his country.

Michael Vaughan has long been a huge advocate for the batting prodigy to be given his India call-up. Finn speaking on the For the Love of Cricket show said, “Would love to see Sooryavanshi in the Indian shirt this year during the England tour. Since India is the world champion, it will be difficult to predict who will open the batting, but he will make the Indian side stronger.”
