Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill penned an emotional note for fans after his team's crushing defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2026 final. Playing in their home ground, the Narendra Modi Stadium, GT were outplayed by five wickets in what was a one-sided final. Gill, who had a terrific season, could not make much of an impact with the bat in the final, scoring just 10 runs. GT were one of the most consistent teams in IPL 2026, finishing second on the points table, but were the second-best team on the night of the final. 'Hurts deeply,' says Shubman Gill after Gujarat Titans' loss in IPL 2026 final
Taking to Instagram, Gill shared a post that expressed his pain after the loss.
GT were hunting their second title but were no match for RCB in the final. Stating that the loss was a life lesson, he wrote, "We came so close but couldn’t get over the line. It hurts deeply, and the disappointment weighs heavily."
The 26-year-old further went on to thank the fans for their support throughout the season. "I want to thank each one of you who stood by us through the highs and the lows.
Your energy pushed us to the very end," his post, which featured several moments from the season, including a picture with boy wonder Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
It has to be noted that Gill, apart from his batting and captaincy, also drew attention for his Instagram posts, the captions of which often seem to take light-hearted jibes at other teams. Shubman Gill is looking forward to the India vs Afghanistan series, while stressing that this defeat is part of life and taught him not to give up. Gill also said that he is looking forward to representing the country. India's upcoming assignment is a multi-format showdown against Afghanistan, which features a one-off Test and three ODIs that start from 6 June.
Gill, the Test and ODI captain, will look to continue his good form from IPL 2026, where he emerged as the second-highest run-scorer with 732 runs to his name.
He also scored a century (104) in Qualifier 2 against the Rajasthan Royals.
