Delhi: Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir wants to make wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson the captain of the T20 team in place of Suryukmar Yadav. However, according to the PTI report, the BCCI selectors are against Gambhir’s decision. He does not want to keep Sanju and Ishan as team captains for a long time.

Gambhir does not want to make Iyer the captain

It has been said in the report that Gautam Gambhir has some reservations about Shreyas Iyer. Both of them worked with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024, when the team won the title. At that time, there were discussions that Shreyas felt that his contribution in the team’s victory was not given that much importance, whereas the role of team mentor Gautam Gambhir was given more credit.

Captaincy snatched away from Surya

According to the report of Indian Express, the captaincy of the Indian T20 team has been taken away from Surya.

Surya’s performance with the bat in the last two years has been absolutely ordinary. Talking about IPL this year, he scored only 270 runs in 13 innings. Only one half-century was scored from his bat. This was the reason why BCCI decided to remove him from the captaincy. Besides, Surya’s place in T20 is also under threat.

These players are also contenders for captaincy

Apart from Iyer and Sanju, there are two more players, who are considered to be strong contenders to become the captain of Team India. These two players are Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma.
