Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become a superstar after his sensational performance for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2026. He scored over 750 runs and was declared the Most Valuable Player of the 19th season. He won the Orange Cap and several other awards, and the move to bid for him in the IPL 2025 mega auction was a masterstroke by RR.
The RR batter has revealed that he was surprised when only two franchises bid for him despite his performance and trials. However, after becoming a big name, he said that feeling has been replaced by gratitude.
Speaking on Rajasthan Royals’ social media channels, he opened up on his feelings when he was picked at the auction.
“When I was picked, I thought only two teams bid for me. I was playing well and performing, and felt other franchises should have gone after my name,” he said.
The words show the confidence he has in his abilities. Rather than feeling satisfied that he got an IPL contract, Sooryavanshi believed he had done enough to attract more interest.
Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals were the only two franchises that bid for him, with the 2008 champions getting their target for INR 1.1 crore. At the time, many lauded Rajasthan for their vision and trust and now their move has become one of the most talked about auction successes in the history of the tournament.
Sooryavanshi is happy that he joined a team like RR. “After spending time with the franchise, I have been saying thank you to God. I am blessed and lucky to play for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.”
The teenager credited the franchise environment for his development as a player. “The teammates, team management, coaches, media team and trainers are like family. It is like home. You can end up sharing anything with anyone. If you are not feeling comfortable, you can speak about it.”
The Rajasthan Royals are renowned for nurturing young talent players. Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel became established names after joining RR, and Sooryavanshi is their latest prized asset.
He lauded the senior members of the team for helping him adapt to life as a cricketer. “All the senior players guide me. They tell me what is good and what is bad. I have learned a lot from them.”
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has already come a long way in his professional career, and he is one of the rising stars in world cricket. After questioning the interest level of the IPL franchises, he is happy to play for the Rajasthan Royals. For him, coming to Jaipur was the best thing for his career.
Rajasthan Royals is the team he can’t stop thanking for their role in his success.
