Delhi: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which operates the Lord’s cricket ground, has recently expressed its dissatisfaction with the pitch used. In the Test match played between England and New Zealand, the dominance of the bowlers was so much that during the match a total of 40 wickets fell in just 166 overs. This situation has sparked a new debate regarding the quality of the pitch.
During the match, the ball was seen behaving unpredictably on several occasions. Some balls remained low, while others bounced up to the height of the batsmen’s bodies. The pattern of fall of wickets also indicated that the conditions were extremely challenging for the batsmen. Out of total 40 wickets, 24 batsmen were out bowled or LBW.
Match referee Andy Pycroft is assessing the performance of the pitch. The International Cricket Council (ICC) may clarify next week whether the wicket was successful in providing a balanced competition between the batsmen and bowlers.
The eyes of the cricket world are now fixed on this report.According to media reports, MCC may consider major changes in the pitch arrangement of Lord’s in the future. Options also include the use of drop-in pitches, which can be prepared in another part of the ground and later installed on the main square.
This is not the first time that Lord’s wicket has come under question.
Even in the last few years, players and experts have expressed concern about the pitches here. In such a situation, the latest controversy has increased additional pressure on the ground management. On the other hand, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has started investigating a case to captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson. It has been told that the board is investigating the facts regarding the alleged incident that took place in a nightclub in the early hours of Monday after the end of the first test against New Zealand.
The ECB has said in its official statement that an investigation is being conducted after the end of the first Test match against New Zealand. However, the board has not made public any further information about the incident. The further situation will become clear only after the investigation is completed.
