Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s biggest mistake of IPL 2024 was trusting Glenn Maxwell. He couldn’t cross 60-run mark in 10 matches of the 17th season. He took a mental fatigue break but it didn’t help.
Maxwell was dropped from the playing XI but it didn’t improve his performance. The management was forced to play him after England batter Will Jacks left the tournament to play for the national team.
However, there was no change in Maxwell’s reckless approach and he once again disappointed with the bat. In the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals, he was dismissed for a golden duck, leaving the franchise in trouble. There was enough time in the game when he arrived at the crease but his habit of taking on bowlers resulted in his dismissal.
He wanted to hit Ravichandran Ashwin for a six but was caught at the long on area.
Former India player Irfan Pathan slammed Maxwell and urged the RCB management to give him a proper dressing down.
“He should get the dressing down for the way he batted against Rajasthan Royals. The management should scold him. You can’t leave him like that.
“He was backed by the franchise but he didn’t do anything. I don’t understand why he played that shot against R Ashwin,” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports.
Rajasthan defeated Bengaluru by 4 wickets to make it to Qualifier 2.
