The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to witness one of the blockbuster trade deals in its rich history.
According to reports, Rishabh Pant is set to move back to Delhi, leaving LSG just two years after his record-breaking price of INR 27 crore.
It is said that Kuldeep Yadav will be traded to LSG. This report comes after Rishabh Pant was relieved of LSG captaincy, which was accepted by the franchise after a disappointing campaign in the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
The development followed LSG team director Tom Moody suggesting immediately after the team’s last match of the season that the franchise was looking to reset the leadership ahead of the new IPL season.
Rishabh Pant has captained 28 matches for LSG, where they have 10 wins and 18 defeats.
He scored 581 runs at an average of 26.4 and a strike rate of 135.74, both of which are lower than his career T20 numbers.
Rishabh Pant led DC in 44 matches from 2021 to 2024, of which they won 24 and lost 19. As a captain, Rishabh Pant scored 1205 runs at an average of 35.44, almost identical to his overall IPL average of 35.31 at a strike rate of 143.96, only slightly worse than his IPL strike rate of 148.93.
Both franchises are still finishing the formalities of the deal, and then will have to wait for the BCCI to sanction their proposal. Rishabh Pant is set to join the Delhi Capitals for INR 15 crore.
LSG will have INR 13.75 crore added to their purse due to trade, while DC will have INR 1.25 crore deducted from their purse value to INR 15 crore for Rishabh Pant.
Rishabh Pant will become the second big name, after Ravindra Jadeja, to take a pay cut as part of the trade.
Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, Chennai Super Kings made one of the biggest trades in IPL history, swapping Jadeja and Sam Curran for Sanju Samson.
Kuldeep Yadav, who plays for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, will not play for the IPL franchise that represents the state.
He had a difficult IPL this year and was benched for most of the T20 World Cup 2026 earlier this year.
Playing 65 games in IPLhe has 72 wickets at an economy of 8.24 since joining them in 2022.
