A brilliant knock from Tim Seifert and Matthew Breetzke has set up Seattle Orcas’ 5-wicket victory against Washington Freedom at Dallas.
After a four-wicket haul from Ottneil Baartman, Seifert (78) and Breetzke (66) runs have secured a first win in the tournament and jumped to the third position in the MLC 2026 points table.
After being invited to bat first, Washington Freedom’s Mitchell Owen and Steven Smith opened the innings while Cameron Gannon opened the bowling attack.
Owen made an explosive start, smashing a 19-ball fifty. The duo made a solid start, scoring 82 runs in the power play. Dasun Shanaka bagged the first breakthrough, dismissing Mitchell Owen for 61 runs.
Mark Chapman, who came to bat at No.3, joined Steven Smith at the crease. Shanaka bagged his second wicket, dismissing Steven Smith for 24 runs.
Andries Gous, who came to bat at No.4, scored 35 runs before being dismissed by Ottneil Baartman.
Baartman bagged his second wicket, dismissing Glenn Maxwell for a golden duck as Washington Freedom lost four wickets for 179 runs.
Freedom’s middle and lower order batters did not make much of a contribution, losing their wickets at regular intervals.
By the end of 20 overs, Washington Freedom lost all 10 wickets to score 216 runs. Ottneil Baartman bagged four wickets while Dasun Shanaka bagged three wickets. Jasdeep Singh completed his four-over spell with two wickets.
Chasing a 217-run target, Seattle Orcas’ Tim Seifert and Shayan Jahangir opened the innings while Marco Jansen opened the bowling attack.
The duo made a decent start, scoring 52 runs for the 1st wicket. Saurabh Netravalkar bagged the first wicket, dismissing Shayan Jahangir for 17 runs.
Matthew Breetzke, who came to bat at No.3, joined Tim Seifert to make an 89-run partnership for the second wicket.
Seifert smashed a fifty and scored 78 runs off 33 deliveries, which included 7 fours and 6 sixes. Following the wk-batter, Breetzke smashed fifty and amassed 66 runs off 36 deliveries, which included 6 fours and 4 sixes.
Saurabh Netravalkar bagged his second wicket, dismissing Tim Seifert. Holland bagged the wickets of Matthew Breetzke and Shimron Hetmyer for 66 and duck in the same over.
Despite Tim Robinson’s dismissal for 10 runs, Dasun Shanaka made a stunning cameo, scoring 36 runs off 12 deliveries, completing the chase in the 18th over.
