Suryansh Shedge has heavily credited his parents' sacrifices following his recent call-up to India's T20I side for their tour to Ireland and England. The all-rounder was picked as an injury replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy for the seven matches India will play in the shortest format in Europe.

Shedge was rightfully ecstatic after getting picked for the Men in Blue for the first time in his professional career. The 23-year-old was also happy for his parents, who made a bunch of sacrifices to help him reach the level he is at right now. This includes his mother having to leave his job as a banker to take him to various training camps and games. 

“Actually, I still can't sink it in, and I think I won't be able to sink it in until I get on the flight! I still can't believe it! This has been my dream since childhood. And obviously, it's a very special feeling. And I feel very proud and happy for my parents, because of the sacrifices they have made for me. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have been able to be a cricketer. My mom was working in a bank, but she quit her job because she had to accompany me to practice and matches," Suryansh Shedge said to The Times of India. 

Shedge's stocks have been on the rise over the past few months, particularly after his stint with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the recently concluded Indian Premier League. The 23-year-old played seven matches this season, scoring 158 runs at a strike-rate of 175.55. His recent run of form also saw him form part of the India A squad for the Tri-Nations Series.

He scored 147 runs from five matches at an average of 36.75 whilst striking at 120.49. His best innings came against Sri Lanka A, where he top-scored with 72 in a dramatic and controversial game in Dambulla, with the hosts winning in a Super Over. 

Shedge will now join the side that will fly to Ireland first to play in a two-match T20I series, before commencing their highly anticipated white-ball tour to England. The first T20 against the Irish is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 26, at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast.
