Today another historic chapter has been added to the golden career of Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful captains and legendary batsmen in the history of Indian cricket. President of India Draupadi Murmu honored Rohit Sharma with ‘Padma Shri’, the country’s fourth highest civilian award, in a grand ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday, June 23. During this very special and glorious moment, many famous and eminent personalities of the country including Prime Minister Narendra Modi were present. Rohit Sharma, who arrived in a smart black suit, received this prestigious award with folded hands in front of the President with great simplicity.

Could not receive honor in May due to cricket reasons, unique coincidence of 23rd June
Interestingly, Rohit Sharma was to receive this honor along with other dignitaries in May this year, but due to cricket- commitments, the former Indian captain could not reach Rashtrapati Bhavan at that time. But today, on 23rd June, receiving the award became a wonderful coincidence for him. Actually, on this day in the year 2007, Rohit Sharma started his international cricket career with an ODI match against Ireland. Exactly 19 years after his historic journey, on the same date, he was honored with this country’s biggest civilian honour. Let us tell you that Rohit is not the only cricketer to receive Padma Shri this year; In May, Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur also received this honour, under whose captaincy Team India won the 2025 ODI World Cup.

50 centuries, more than 20 thousand runs and ‘king of sixes’
The cricket career of Rohit Sharma, popularly known as ‘Hitman’, is full of incredible records. He has played a total of 510 international matches so far in the Indian jersey, in which he has scored a total of 20,173 runs at an average of 43.16. A total of 50 centuries and more than 100 half-centuries have come from his bat in all three formats combined. He holds the world record for hitting the maximum number of 653 sixes in international cricket. Apart from this, Rohit is the only batsman in the world to score three double centuries in the history of ODI cricket. Although Rohit has announced his retirement from T20 and Test cricket, he is still active for Team India in the ODI format.
