India lost their opening game of the two-match series against Ireland by 34 runs on Friday. The Men in Blue were bowled out for a mere 148 while chasing 183 runs to win the opening game in Belfast. Opener Abhishek Sharma was the top scorer for the visiting side after giving the team a great start in the first six overs.

Addressing the media after the India vs Ireland game on Friday, the left-handed batter said that it is important to adapt to conditions quickly. When the team is playing successive games, the side, as per the southpaw, has to step forward and get used to different conditions, which didn’t happen in the opening game.

The 25-year-old batter also added that, as a team which is known to dominate, it was important to acclimatize, which was something the team lacked.

Defending T20 World Cup champions struggled with the bat, barring efforts from Sharma and Shivam Dubeywho scored a quickfire 25 runs.

Shreyas Iyer warns team against taking things for granted

31-year-old Shreyas Iyercaptaining his first game, started his reign with a loss. Speaking at the end of the game, Iyer said, “One cannot take anything for granted.

One has to work hard and stay in the moment. It is not easy to just turn up and hope to win games. Players have to seize the moment, which we didn’t as a team.”

Indian skipper was also to comment on the batting collapse during the chase, to which he said, “We started well, but lost our way and didn’t execute our plans. Felt 140 would have been a good score to chase after the start we had. It was a good experience to play in conditions like this and get a fair idea about the wicket as well.”

Meanwhile, Ireland skipper Lorcan Tucker lauded his side and called the moment special. “Special win and all credit goes to the team, there were some tough moments, but we stayed in the contest. Worked very hard  for this result and got the reward in the end.”
