Indian Premier League saw one of its biggest player exchanges ahead of the 2027 season, when Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) And Delhi Capitals (DC) by Rishabh Pant And Kuldeep Yadav Agreed on a blockbuster trade between. The deal sees Pant return to Delhi Capitals after a brief stint with Lucknow, while Kuldeep joins the Super Giants to strengthen their spin attack.

Pant, who was bought by LSG for a record ₹27 crore ahead of the 2026 season, is now returning to his former franchise on a revised contract worth ₹15 crore. Whereas, Kuldeep is going to Lucknow at his current salary of ₹13.5 crore. The move has generated significant buzz in the cricket world, with both franchises hoping that this trade will help reshape their fortunes after contrasting campaigns last season.

Avesh Khan shares his opinion on blockbuster trade

Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Avesh Khan believes that this exchange is a positive outcome for both the teams and expressed full confidence in the management’s decision making process.

Speaking to ANI, Avesh said, “It was a management decision based on their requirements. I think it’s a good deal for both teams. Delhi got Rishabh Pant back, and we got Kuldeep, whose experience as a world-class spinner will be very beneficial for us on our big home ground.”

The fast bowler highlighted Kuldeep’s experience as one of India’s premier wrist-spinners and expressed confidence that his presence can significantly strengthen LSG’s bowling attack, especially at the Ekana Stadium, where big boundaries often prioritize quality spin bowling.

Avesh also clarified that the decision was driven by the long-term planning of the franchise and not by personal preferences. With Lucknow trying to recover from a disappointing 2026 campaign, the addition of an experienced spinner like Kuldeep is expected to bring more balance to the team.

Why this trade could be beneficial for both franchises

This trade has the potential to benefit both teams in different ways. For Delhi Capitals, bringing back Pant is more than just signing an explosive wicketkeeper-batsman. Pant has been associated with the franchise for almost a decade and has also captained the team previously. His return reinstates a familiar leader around whom the team can rebuild its batting unit and dressing room culture.

For Lucknow, acquiring Kuldeep serves as a field strength. The left-arm wrist-spinner has consistently performed well in the IPL and international cricket, offering wicket-taking ability in the middle overs. His variations could prove particularly effective on Lucknow’s slow home surface, where spin has traditionally played a decisive role.

The move also gives LSG more financial flexibility by reducing their total salary commitment, giving them additional space to strengthen other departments ahead of the IPL 2027 auction. However, Pant’s departure also leaves the franchise in search of a new captain, making the leadership decision equally important in their rebuilding process.
