Zimbabwe finished the opening day of the only Test against Bangladesh in a commanding position after a determined unbeaten half-century from Innocent Kaia and an impressive bowling performance put the hosts firmly in control at the Harare Sports Club.

After winning the toss, Zimbabwe produced a disciplined all-round display. Kaia held the innings together with a patient, unbeaten half-century, showing excellent temperament against Bangladesh’s bowling attack.

His knock ensured Zimbabwe remained steady despite losing wickets at regular intervals.

Bangladesh’s bowlers found occasional breakthroughs but failed to dismiss Kaia, who continued to frustrate the visitors with solid defense and timely boundaries. His innings will be crucial as Zimbabwe looks to build a substantial first-innings total on Day 2.

Zimbabwe’s bowlers also played a major role in shifting the momentum. They maintained tight lines and lengths, preventing Bangladesh from gaining control whenever opportunities arose. The disciplined bowling effort kept the visitors under pressure throughout the day and allowed Zimbabwe to finish with the advantage.

With Kaia still unbeaten at the crease, Zimbabwe will aim to extend their lead when play resumes. Bangladesh, meanwhile, will be hoping for early wickets on the second morning to prevent the hosts from posting a match-defining first-innings score.

Day 1 clearly belonged to Zimbabwe, with Kaia’s composed batting and the bowlers’ disciplined performance putting the home side in a strong position heading into the remainder of the Test.
