India’s elimination in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 after suffering defeat to Australia has opened up questions about Harmanpreet Kaur’s future as captain in the shortest format.
When asked about her future in the press conference, head coach Amol Muzumdar expressed his hope that she would stay on as captain.
“It’s up to the selectors to decide the captain. I think yes. I want my short and sweet answer would be yes,” Muzumdar told journalists after the match.
2026 is Harmanpreet’s sixth T20 World Cup as captain, and India has only made it past the semifinal stage once in those outings. It made the final in the 2020 edition before losing to Australia.
