Indian pace bowling has seen many new names emerge in the last few years. Umran Malik, Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana, and now the latest sensation is Prince Yadav. One name which has gone under the radar is that of right-arm seamer Avesh Khan. The 29-year-old last played for India in 2024.
The seamer underwent surgery on his ACL, which ruled him out for a considerable period of time. Out-of-favour pacer recently spoke to News 18, where he shared his desire to don the blues of India once more. Lucknow Super Giants pacer was quoted by News 18 as saying, “When the domestic season starts, my focus will be on bowling well and helping Madhya Pradesh win games and trophies. Strong performances there will permit me to get back into the limelight”
Currently, the seamer was part of the Chambal Ghariyals, which won the Madhya Pradesh Premier League title. In the final, the Indian star bowled four overs and took 2/44. He had a good tournament with the ball, where he managed to pick up a total of 13 wickets and finished joint sixth with Delhi Capitals star Madhav Tiwari in the bowling honours.
Speaking about the campaign, Khan said, “It has been a fantastic campaign, both individually and as a team. We have been unbeaten, which makes it even more special, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my first season in the MPL. It is a fantastic platform, especially for young cricketers. Strong performances here can open doors to higher levels “
The pacer was part of the India Under-19 side that Ishan Kishan led during the 2016 World Cup. That team had future stars like Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Sarfaraz Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed amongst the ranks.
His first game for India was the T20I game against the West Indies in 2022 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Avesh had a terrible debut as he went for 42 runs without claiming a wicket. Since that game, he has played 25 games in this format, claiming 27 wickets with a best of 4/18. He has also played 8 ODI games and claimed nine wickets, with his last appearance taking place in December 2023 vs South Africa.
In the IPLhe has played 83 games and taken 93 wickets with an economy rate of 9.2 runs per over. This year, LSG managed to give him just seven games, from which the bowler claimed six wickets in what was a disappointing season.
