Newman Nyamhuri Shines as Zimbabwe Seals 25-Run Victory Against Bangladesh

A comprehensive all-round performance from Newman Nyamhuri has set up a 25-run victory against Bangladesh in the 1st ODI match played at Harare.

He amassed 33 runs and bagged two wickets in his spell, setting up a 1-0 lead in the ongoing ODI series.

Being invited to bat first, Brian Bennett and Ben Curran opened the innings for Zimbabwe while Taskin Ahmed opened the bowling attack.

Curran got dismissed on a run out for 18 runs while Taskin Ahmed bagged the wicket of Brian Bennett for 17 runs.

Ahmed bagged his second wicket, dismissing Craig Ervine for a duck. With Sikandar Raza and Wessely Madhevere at the crease, Zimbabwe secured 39 runs in the power play.

Nahid Rana bagged the wickets of Sikandar Raza and Wessly Madhevere cheaply. He continued to pick the wickets of Clive Madande, Richard Ngarava and Brad Evans to complete his six-wicket haul while Mehidy Hasan bagged the wicket of Newman Nyamhuri.

Newman Nyamhuri and Richard Ngarava forged a 63-run partnership as the side posted 141 runs in their innings.

Nahid Rana bagged 6 wickets, while Taskin Ahmed bagged two wickets, and Mehidy Hasan bagged one wicket in his spell.

Chasing a 142-run target, Tanzid Hasan and Soumya Sarkar opened the innings while Richard Ngarava opened the bowling attack.

Blessing Muzarabani bagged the wickets of Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain for 8 and 3 runs respectively.

Zimbabwe bowlers put up a deadly attack against Bangladesh’s lineup as the side struggled to score runs and keep wickets.

By the end of the power play, Bangladesh scored 32 runs for three wickets. Towhid Hridoy and Nuru Hasan did forge a partnership, but Newman Nyamhuri bagged the wicket of Hridoy as the side lost the fourth wicket for 66 runs.

Bangladesh lost all 10 wickets to score 116 runs as they suffered 25 run defeat in the first game of the series.

Newman Nyamhuri bagged two wickets, conceding 22 runs in 6 overs wile Richard Ngarava and Brad Evans bagged three wickets each.

Newman Nyamhuri was named as the Player of the Match. Speaking on the presentation, Nyamhuri said, “I’m quite happy. I did the job for the team, yeah. (On team discussions at the halfway stage?) We were telling each other that at the end of the game, we have to fight and put everything in the field.”
