401New Delhi. Indian female cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues has gifted a new SUV car to her childhood coach Prashant Shetty, expressing her gratitude for his years of hard work and guidance. Jemima, an important player of the Indian women’s team, has always acknowledged the role of coach Shetty in shaping her cricket career. This is not the first time in Indian cricket that a player has honored his childhood coach.
In 2014, Virat Kohli had gifted a car to his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma on the occasion of Teacher’s Day, which was later mentioned in his book. Similarly, Pandya Brothers had also gifted a new car to their coach Jitendra Singh along with financial help. Prashant Shetty has been Jemima’s coach since she was just nine years old. His cricket journey started from MIG Club in Bandra, where his father Ivan Rodrigues took him. At that time the club had only a boys’ academy, but Shetty recognized Jemima’s talent and convinced the club administration to give her special permission.
Shetty runs a clinic
Currently Shetty runs Kalpavriksha Cricket Clinic in Bandra. After Jemimah’s brilliant innings of 127 runs against Australia in the semi-finals of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup, he had emotionally said that when he saw Jemimah playing for the first time, he understood that she could do something special.
Jemima will play Women’s T20 World Cup
Now Jemima will be among the leading players of India in the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup. She will participate in the preparation camp at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru from 10 to 16 May. After this she will leave for England, where India will play a three-match T20 series, after which the T20 World Cup will be held in June-July.
