Yastika Bhatia entered the record books on Sunday, becoming the first woman cricketer to score a Test hundred at Lord’s during the ENG vs IND one-off match. The left-hander completed the landmark, justifying her selection after missing India’s previous two red-ball games.

She resumed her innings alongside Smriti Mandhana on Day 3 and batted comfortably against the English attack, reaching her maiden Test ton off 145 balls. India dominated the match as she added important runs to the total after the dismissal of Mandhana for 70 early in the day. When Yastika reached the 90-run mark, India had taken their lead to above 350 runs.

Yastika was on 90 at the time of lunch. She needed just 6 balls after the break to complete her landmark century. She took a single off Issy Wong’s delivery in the 68th over to touch the three-digit mark.

Yastika was happy and raised her bat and helmet to thank the fans and her teammates, who applauded for her from the dressing room. She bowed on the pitch after ensuring that her name was written on the  Lord’s Honours Board.

The century also made her a member of the elite group. Yastika is the second Indian left-handed batter in the men’s and women’s categories to score a Test century at Lord’s after Sourav Ganguly, who posted 131 on debut in 1996.

She is also the second women’s cricketer after fast bowler Kranti Gaud to have her name on the Lord’s Honours Board in the first-ever women’s Test at the iconic venue.

Yastika joined Smriti Mandhana in the middle after Sophie Ecclestone took Shafali Verma’s wicket. She added 88 runs with Mandhana for the first wicket. She completed her half-century in 86 balls and then started hitting shots in the morning session of Day3.

The 24-year-old used her feet against the spinners and punished anything short. Yastika’s drives and pulls helped her maintain the attacking approach as India put England under pressure.

She started the second session with boundaries off Wong to reach 99 runs before facing a few dot balls. However, Yastika managed to reach the ton, showing her skills and class against the host nation.
