The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited applications for the post of head coach through social media on May 13, the last date for which is May 27. According to sources, BCCI itself contacted Gautam Gambhir and asked him to apply to become the coach. However, Gambhir has not yet taken any decision in this regard.

Gautam did not work as a specialist coach, but his experience as a mentor of IPL teams has been great. Under his guidance, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) performed brilliantly and reached the final of IPL 2024. Before becoming the mentor of KKR, Gambhir also played the same role in Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), as long as he was in LSG, the team made it to the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023. That is, the teams for which Gambhir worked as a mentor in the IPL performed well.

Who else is in the competition?

After Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh's name has also come up to become the head coach of the Indian cricket team, but he has made it clear that he will not apply for this post. Apart from Gambhir, the names of Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman are also being considered.

If Gambhir wants to become the head coach of the Indian cricket team, he will have to leave the post of coach of Kolkata Knight Riders, because according to the rules and constitution of BCCI, one person cannot hold two posts. Now it will be interesting to see who becomes the head coach of the Indian team after Dravid.
