Delhi: Former Pakistan cricket team veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi has been named as the tournament ambassador for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to be held in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). He joins Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh and Usain Bolt in the list of ambassadors. Afridi won the Player of the Series award in the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007.

In 34 matches played in the T20 World Cup, Afridi has scored 546 runs at an average of 18.82 and taken 39 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls. Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the final of the 2009 T20 World Cup at the prestigious Lord's Cricket Ground in London.
Shahid Afridi, 47, said, “The ICC Men's T20 World Cup is an event that is very close to my heart. From becoming Player of the Tournament in the inaugural edition to lifting the trophy in 2009, some of the best achievements of my career have come while competing on this stage.”
He further added, “The T20 World Cup has gone from strength to strength in recent years and I am thrilled to be a part of this edition, where we will see more teams, more matches and even more excitement than ever before.”
'Excited to watch India vs Pakistan match'
Afridi said that he is looking forward to watching the big match between India and Pakistan on June 9 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
The former added, “I am particularly excited to watch the India vs Pakistan match on June 9. It is one of the biggest rivalries in cricket and New York will be a fitting platform for this high-voltage encounter between two great teams.”
The Pakistani team will start its campaign on June 6 with a match at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. The team led by Babar Azam is currently in England, where it is busy playing a 4-match T20 International series.
