Just six months ago, Kayla Reyneke was a relative unknown in Western Province’s domestic setup. Today, the 20-year-old stands as one of South Africa’s most exciting cricket talents and a double nominee for CSA Awards.
The former Under-19 captain always seemed destined for bigger things, but her fearless composure in high-stakes moments has surprised even her biggest supporters. She’s the only player worldwide to hit the winning run off the last ball on both her T20I and ODI debuts, a feat that earned her nods for International Women’s Newcomer of the Year and Women’s T20 International Player of the Year after just one senior season.
Yet Reyneke isn’t letting the accolades get to her head.
“You dream about this, but actually doing it is completely different,” she told Independent Media. “I’m just taking it day by day.”
With her feet firmly on the ground, this rising star is proof that humility and hunger can go hand in hand.
