Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel make massive gains in ICC Rankings

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel has moved to number nine in the ICC all-rounders ranking. The 32-year-old gained three places after scoring 57 not out and also took four wickets with the ball in the first ODI vs England on Tuesday. He was named the Player of the Match.

Patel became the third player after Sachin Tendulkar and Hardik Pandya to take four wickets and score fifty in the same game.

Afghanistan star Azmatullah Omarzai is number one in the rankings, followed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mohammad Nabi in the next two spots. Sikandar Raza and Michael Bracewell were placed fourth and fifth in the rankings. Other Indian players in the list are Ravindra Jadeja at number 17 and Kuldeep Yadav at 26th.

Indian T20I skipper Shreyas Iyer has moved up to number 31 in the T20I rankings.

Iyer scored 218 runs in the five-match series against England at an average of 54.25 and a strike-rate just under 158. Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma held on to his number two spot, followed by Pakistani batter Sahibzada Farhan.

Tilak Varma lost two spots to slide down to number eight in the rankings, while former skipper Suryakumar Yadav is 16th on the list. Shivam Dube and Sanju Samson were just above the Indian captain at 28 and 29 in the T20I batting list.

In the Test format, Jadeja is still the number 1 all-rounder with Marco Jansen slotted second. Washington Sundar is placed at number seven while Axar is tenth on the list. India’s next Test assignment is against Sri Lanka.

Shubman Gill and the Indian veteran duo dominate the ODI batting rankings

ODI skipper Shubman Gill was placed at number two in the batting rankings just behind Daryl Mitchell.

The 26-year-old scored 80 not out in the opening game against England before retiring hurt due to fitness issues. Gill had also scored a fifty and a match-winning 154 against Afghanistan.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have held onto their third and fourth spot despite their failures during the Edgbaston game.

Kohli was dismissed for five runs when he was trapped LBW by Jofra Archer. Rohit, on the other hand, scored 11 runs from 21 balls and was sent back by Sam Curran.
