Andy Flower has made himself unavailable for the post of England’s head coach in Test cricket. He was the frontrunner to succeed Brendon McCullum, who parted ways with the English team after below-par outcomes in the Ashes and the Test series against India. The home series defeat against New Zealand sealed his fate, with the England and Wales Cricket Board deciding to move on from the former New Zealand captain.

However, he will continue in white-ball formats.

The officials had shortlisted several candidates, with Flower leading the race. However, his commitment to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League seems to be a reason behind his refusal. Rajat Patidar’s team has won two consecutive IPL titles under Flower’s coaching so far. Although the ECB was ready to allow him to continue his job with the RCB, the veteran was reluctant, considering the demands of international cricket.

According to Test Match Special, Flower, who led England to Ashes success on three occasions, is not ready to take up the vacant post.
